Testicular / Scrotum / Groin Pain
Bookmark and Share

Testicular pain can occur in or around one or both testicles and can be due to a number of causes. The testicles are very sensitive organs, and even a minor injury can cause testicle pain or discomfort. Testicle pain may arise from the testicle itself or from the structure behind the testicle (epididymis), problems that start in the groin or lower abdomen or trauma. Seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Apply an ice pack or ice wrapped in a cloth to your scrotum to help relieve pain and swelling
2   Take warm baths if there are signs of inflammation.
3   While lying down, support the scrotum with an athletic supporter or place a rolled towel underneath it.
4   Try over-the-counter pain relievers, like acetaminophen or ibuprofen
5   Seek medical assistance if you have pain and swelling after an hour or if you have nausea or vomiting
Warnings
DO NOT place pure ice directly on your scrotum
Make sure the person is not allergic to acetaminophen or ibuprofen
Tips
Ice packs have been shown to increase the time that a testicle can survive with decreased blood flow
Pain may also be caused by a hernia or an unrelieved erection
