Tear gas is a non-lethal riot control or crowd control agent. It is a chemical compound which causes immediate tearing of the eyes, mild respiratory convulsions, an increase in blood pressure and pulse, as well as the irritation of mucous membranes.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Expose the person to fresh air like a breeze or a fan
2   Flush eyes with saline or cool fresh water for at least 15 minutes or until stinging subsides
3   Wash affected area with non oil or cold cream based soap and water to remove tear gas from the skin
4   Breathing difficulties are treated by administering oxygen and in some cases using medication that are used to treat asthma.
5   If any irritation or pain persists after decontamination, get medical assistance
Warnings
DO NOT panic and stay calm as panicking increases the irritation
Breathe slowly and remember it is only temporary as it lasts 5-30 minutes
DO NOT swallow and instead blow your nose, rinse your mouth, cough and spit
DO NOT rub eyes and instead blink the chemical out
Tips
People should remove contaminated clothes and place them in a sealed plastic bag
Remove contact lenses as chemical particles can get trapped under the lends and cause serious eye damage
Vaseline, makeup, detergent soap, skin moisturizers or any skin products with chemical additives and oil bases can trap tear gas particles on your skin and cause serious damage
