Tarantula Bite
Bookmark and Share

Tarantulas are often very large spiders. They are not known to cause many human fatalities however their bite does cause pain for a number of days. Usually Tarantulas before they attack raise their rear ends and lifting their front legs in a “threat posture” to reveal their fangs and attack. They are also known to shoot their hairs before biting which causes itchiness.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Pull off any spider hairs with an adhesive tape
2   The bite area usually can be identified by 2 faint red dots surrounded by redness and very faint swelling at first. Wash the bite area with soap and water.
3   Apply a bandage directly over the bite and another bandage both above and below the bite, ensuring the skin is covered. This will help slow the progression of any toxin present.
4   Place ice wrapped in a cloth or a cold compress on the bite area for 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off (repeatedly)
5   Elevate the affected limb.
6   To help with the pain take ibuprofen, or acetaminophen as directed.
7   If there is any shortness of breath, weakness, or chest pain call 911 or go to the nearest emergency center.
Warnings
Be aware of any allergic reactions from the hairs or the bites and SEEK MEDICAL HELP
Make sure the person is not allergic to acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or naproxen
DO NOT attempt to capture the spider. If possible, get a good look at the spider for later description/identification.
