Mushroom Poisoning

Mushroom poisoning is usually the result of ingestion of wild mushrooms after misidentification of a toxic mushroom as an edible species. Most mushrooms are actually poisonous.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Stay calm and call 911 or the poison control center at (800) 222-1222
2   Rest the person in a quiet place
3   Follow directions from poison control.
4   If vomiting occurs place the person face down in recovery position to prevent choking on vomit.
5   Collect a sample of the suspected mushroom including the base and place it in a paper bag, cup, box, or wax paper, also collect a sample of the vomit if possible
6   Seek medical attention immediately
Warnings
The very young and the very old may be most affected by mushroom poisoning
DO NOT use a plastic bag to collect the mushroom sample
Tips
Most cases of mushroom poisoning are mild but it can be fatal and should always be taken seriously so seek medical attention
Onset of symptoms can be delayed by a day or more
