Lice
Bookmark and Share

Lice are a type of parasite that likes to attach itself to the scalp, pubic area, or body of a person. There is no product or method which assures 100% destruction of the eggs and hatched lice after a single treatment. However, there are a number of treatment modalities that can be employed with varying degrees of success. These methods include chemical treatments, natural products, combs, shaving, hot air, and silicone-based lotions.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Use an anti-louse shampoo which has the active ingredient permethrin (check the label), follow instructions on the container.
2   After shampooing comb through the hair using a special fine-toothed louse comb to remove any lice.
3   Spray any furniture and bedding that have been used in the previous 3 days with a permethrin containing insecticide.
4   Dry-Clean or machine wash at the hottest setting all exposed towels, sheets, and clothing. Iron them if possible.
5   Place small, potentially contaminated objects in plastic bags for 2 weeks, or until the lice are no longer visible.
6   Throw out all exposed combs and brushes.
Warnings
If the lice reappear within a week after using the shampoo, see a physician
If your child is infested, report it immediately to their school
Tips
Use the comb frequently to check for the presence of lice or eggs and to determine if the treatment has worked.
