A dislocation occurs when extreme force is put on a ligament, allowing the ends of two connected bones to separate. It is crucial to have it checked out by a medical professional. This is a common high energy, traumatic injury in motor vehicle accident, falls from height >3ft, sports such as football, volleyball, basketball etc. It is both an unusual and serious injury.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Help the person lay down preferably on a blanket to insulate them from the ground
2   Dislocated knees are usually flexed (or bent), however, DO NOT manipulate the joint.
3   Call 911 or seek emergency medical treatment immediately.
Warnings
This injury requires professional attention immediately
DO NOT raise the person’s legs
DO NOT attempt to put any joints back in place by yourself as you can cause further damage
Tips
This injury is common for the elderly especially women or in contact sports
