Crown Of Thorns Puncture

Crown of thorns are a type of starfish that live at the bottom of tropical areas. Injury occurs from the spine and the venom injected from the spine.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Use tweezers to remove any spines in the wound because symptoms may not go away until all spines have been removed.
2   Scrub the wound with soap and water followed by extensive rinsing with fresh water.
3   If medical attention is not readily available. Immerse the affected area in water as hot as the person can tolerate for 30-90 minutes. Repeat as necessary to control pain.
4   Apply hydrocortisone cream 2-3 times daily as needed for itching and discontinue immediately if any signs of infection appear.
5   If there are signs of infection then see your doctor where they will provide a topical antibiotic ointment 3 times per day. Signs of infection include pus, redness, and/or hot sensation.
Warnings
DO NOT cover the wound with tape.
Tips
Oral antibiotics are recommended for infection
