Any severe injury to the arm can cause you to break your bone. Bones will heal over time but it is essential to keep it immobile to prevent any further injury. It is essential to seek emergency medical help to increase healing time and assess any other injuries.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Take person to a safe location away from any further harm
2   Check and make sure the person has good Airway, Breathing, and Circulation
3   Control any bleeding by applying gentle pressure with a large sterile, or clean cloth
4   Cover the entire wound including and any protruding bone with a bandage. If there is a protruding bone immediately call emergency services.
5   Gently place the arm at a right angle across the person’s chest with the thumb pointing upwards and the palm facing the chest
6   Apply a padded splint on each side of the arm with a newspaper, or magazine wrapped under both sides of the arm
7   Stabilize the arm by using a towel or clothing as a sling and place it under the arm and around the neck making sure that the fingers are 3-4 inches higher than the level of the elbow.
8   Apply ice in a bag or icepack to the injured area for 15 minutes on and then 15 minutes off
9   Take the person to the hospital and make sure they sit up or call 911.
Warnings
DO NOT move the person if they show signs of injures to the head, back or neck
DO NOT put ice directly on the skin
DO NOT try to push back any part of the bone that is sticking out
DO NOT try to straighten a broken bone
Tips
Splint should reach from the elbow and past the wrist
If the person has trouble breathing, pain while breathing, a protruding bone, or a wound to the chest call 911 IMMEDIATELY
