Bleeding Under Nail

Any break in the skin around the nail can cause bleeding. Depending on how severe the break in the skin is and how deep it is will determine the amount of bleeding. It is essential to stop the bleeding or slow it down with pressure until you can stop bleeding or get medical help.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Remove any jewelry you may have on and wash the affected area
2   Control any bleeding by applying pressure with a clean cloth.
3   Apply an ice pack or ice wrapped in a cloth.
4   If the finger or toe is bent or deformed and there is a deep cut, or if part of the nail is lifted away from the nail bed or missing, you need immediate medical attention.
5   Wrap the hand or foot in a clean towel. Keep it elevated above your heart if possible.
6   If the nail was removed by the injury or the doctor and the nailbed wasn't cut soak twice daily with antibacterial soap and water for 10-15 minutes
7   After soaking apply of a topical antibiotic ointment like Neosporin and a Band-Aid
Warnings
DO NOT apply ice directly to the skin
Make sure the person is not allergic to ibuprofen
Tips
For a minor injury ibuprofen is recommended
