Testicular Injury
Bookmark and Share

Injury can occur to this sensitive area from a fall, bite, or a scratch. It is more common when your pet gets groomed as they can get accidentally nicked with electric clippers. It is usually very painful for your pet as your pet won't want to walk or sit or seek out cool surfaces. First aid may be all that is needed for relief but if the pain and swelling get worse you will have to consult a vet.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Muzzle your pet to prevent him from biting you as you aid him
2   If there is a scratch or abrasion on the area wash it off with contact lens solution or plain cool water with a sink sprayer
3   Apply Neosporin to the area to prevent any infection.
4   Gently place a gauze pad over the area and spray the gauze pad with a sprayer filled with ice water to keep the pad soaked and cold for 10 - 30 min a few times a day
5   To make sure your dog is not licking the area you may want to put on an Elizabethan collar
6   If the injury is more severe or your dog is in pain consult a vet as soon as possible
Warnings
DO NOT put an ice pack directly on the scrotum as the area is very sensitive to temperatures especially cold
Tips
Apply Nerosporin a couple times a day to reduce inflammation
