Shock

Shock occurs when the tissues of the body doesn't get enough oxygen. It is a life threatening condition and can be the result of many different types of serious or illness or injury. It is important that first aid is given and taken to a vet immediately because shock is so serious and acts very fast. Depending on your pet’s underlying condition, if he is treated quickly enough he may be able to recover.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Apply a clean cloth or gauze pad to the wound and apply pressure
2   If blood soaks through the pad apply another pad over it and apply pressure
3   Elevate your pet’s hind end (unless injured) to increase blood flow to the heart.
4   Stabilize your dog by getting a board sturdy enough to hold your pet’s weight without breaking
5   Set the board next to your dog and gently slide a sheet or towel under him and then pull the sheet horizontally onto the board
6   Warm your pet if cold by wrapping in blankets & towels. Apply hot water bottles (wrapped in towels) to your pet’s body.
7   Cool your pet if hot by applying cold compresses or cold packs (wrapped in a towel) to your pet’s chest and abdomen.
8   Get to the vet immediately
Warnings
DO NOT remove initial cloth as it will remove the clot trying to form
Take your dog to the vet immediately
Hypothermia can set in if your pet is not warmed up
Tips
If you can not find a board you can also use a blanket as a stretcher
