Nosebleeds or epistaxis (bleeding from the nose) can be due to a number of things but are most commonly seen after motor vehicle accidents and falls. Other causes of nosebleed are foreign bodies, tumors, infectious agents, rat poisons, drugs, and underlying medical problems such as a bleeding disorder.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Keep your dog as calm as possible so that he does not shake his head or drip blood around
2   If you know that your dog's nosebleed was caused by a bump in the nose or not by something more serious then apply a cold wet washcloth to his nose and then an icepack over it for 10 min on and 15 min off, and repeat a couple times if needed
3   If his nose keeps bleeding for more than 20 min take him to the vet to have him checked out
Warnings
DO NOT apply the ice pack directly to the nose
DO NOT place anything up the dog’s nostrils to stop bleeding
DO NOT tilt your dog’s head up to stop the bleeding
Be careful not to make breathing difficult when applying pressure to the bleeding nose
Tips
It is helpful to treat your dog in the bathroom tub or tile floor to ease in cleaning any blood
Keep your dog calm and still to give the chance for a clot to form
