Hives are the response to a severe allergic reaction from an insect sting or direct contact with an allergen such as certain garden & woodsy plants. Hives are usually seen within 30-45 minutes of exposure or contact with allergen.

Symptoms

Steps
1   To reduce the allergic reaction give 1 mg Benadryl per pound of body weight
2   Relieve some discomfort from itching by giving your dog a cold water soak in a tub or with a garden hose for 10-20 minutes at least once a day
3   You may dab a cooled steeped tea bag of green or black tea on the itchiest parts
4   If your dog won't go into the water you can use a cold compress wrapped in a cloth and apply it to itchy areas of your dog
5   You may also use a black tea bag by soaking in hot water and then removing it to cool
6   If your pet is still scratching despite treatment and/or your dog is not improving after 24 hours, seek veterinary attention for further treatment.
