Fire Ant Bite
Bookmark and Share

Fire ants obtained their name because their bite causes a burning sensation. Disturbing a nest of fire ants can result in a mass attack from the fire ants so it's important to get far away from the concentration of the ants before treating the bite. Even though they bite it is the venom from their sting that causes the discomfort. Fortunately they are easy to treat; however, if the swelling persists or if your pet was stung by multiple ants it's a good idea to have your pet checked out by a vet.

Symptoms

Steps
1   Make sure you remove yourself and your cat from any fire ants and gently hose off ants if you need to get them off your pet.
2   Dampen a cotton ball with ammonia and dab it on the fire ant bite to relieve pain
3   If there is still some discomfort or swelling, apply a coldpack (wrapped in a towel) for 1-2 minutes to the site.
4   Consult a vet if needed
